The BS Padmanabhan Memorial Swachid School & Teacher's Training Centre was inaugurated under the auspices of Kanchana Patti Play school at Nungambakkam, Chennai in January 2007.
This initiative was made possible by an endowment from the family of Veteran Journalist Late Sri BS Padmanabhan. The event was attended by Mr Sunderrajan son of the former; Smt Radha Mohan, Child Development expert; Sri Indira Parthasarathy, renowned Tamil Writer; Sri Suriyanarayanan, CEO of Kanchana Patti Schools, Sw K Kasturi Rangan, parents and members of Swachid.
Swachid K Kasturi Rangan addressed the gathering and talked about a holistic approach to early child development and education. He explained the concept behind the Swachid schools and the methodology followed to establish a strong foundation in reading, writing and arithmetic at an early age.
It was decided to start a Learning centre and conduct a Teacher's Training Course.

BS Padmanabhan Memorial Swachid School & Learning Centre was inaugurated
at Pallikaranai, Jalladianpet on Sunday, June 17, 2007. The Learning Centre
houses games and learning aids in Math, English & Tamil for Primary level
learning. A demonstration was given to the gathering on the use of the material.
the Learning centre will be used as a library and activity palce for the neighbouring
village children.
Smt Maanvizhi Shankar who runs a Swachid school in Virudhunagar shared her experiences using the Swachid methodology and said it was highly successful in bringing a level of proficiency among young school dropouts in the area.
